Restaurants, a bakery, a butcher, small grocery stores are all within
walking distance.
Nearby Kommos not only has a large sandy beach it is also home to a large
archeological dig. While the dig is unfortunately closed to the public
the view from the fences is still worth the visit.
Nearby villages such as Matala, Gortys, Phaistos, Agia Triada, Sivas, ...
are well worth visiting offering everything from souvenir shops to
archeological digs.
The countryside itself is crisscrossed with walking paths and there's no
better way to experience Crete.
Pitsidia is easily accessible by car and is about an hour's drive from
Heraklion.
